In November 2009, the DC Explosion were celebrating a 12-8 victory over the Chicago Wolverines in the NAFL CB Championship Game, played in Miami. Two months later they were back on the field in Homestead, Florida (south of Miami) competing for a National Championship.
The DC Explosion defeated the Knights of Miami (30-6) to win the 2009 USA Bowl/Sunshine Bowl D-II National Championship. This is their third consecutive season winning a postseason championship.
The Knights jumped out to an early 6-0 lead. However, DC "exploded" for 30 unanswered points, en route to another title victory. Running back Larry Graham (Explosion) was named the game's Offensive MVP, while Emmanuel Levell (Knights) took home the Defensive MVP honors.
